Troop 271 Committee Meeting

November 21,  2005

 

Attending the meeting was Doc, Gerry F., Jerry B., Leo N., Randy K., Andy K., Ed W., Rob K., Ron R., Rod B., Nick T., Darren B., and Alan D.

  1. Camping Report
    1. The Holiday Campout is scheduled for Dec. 2-4 at D-A.  25 to 28 scouts are scheduled to attend, 6 to 8 Weblos and 16 to 18 adults. 
    2. The scouts will stay in Draper and Oak Ridge cabins.
    3. Caving is scheduled for January 21-22 in Indiana.  29 people registered for 23 positions.  The first in with permission slips and cash will go. 
    4. The Winter Camporee is scheduled for February 3,4,and 5.  The theme of the campout is Monster Engineer. 
    5. Miakonda is scheduled for March 10, 11, and 12.  We have reserved the Sylvania cabin. 
    6. Also discussed was the possibility of an April campout or the spring Camporee.  See the SPL or a leader if you have a suggestion.
    7. May campout is the possibility of an orienteering campout. 
  2. Activities
    1. Can-do went well with approx. 1500# of cans collected. 
    2. The Christmas party is scheduled for December 17 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at Morgans Arcadia on the corner of Beech and Ford Rd.
  3. Advancement Report
    1. Carl R. advanced to the rank of 1st class Scout.   Congratulations Carl.
  4. Committee Position
    1. John B. volunteered for the position of Committee Chair.  Thank you Mr. B.
  5. Treasury Report
    1. Rod B. reported the troop to be in good financial shape.  Sales for the wreaths were down from last year.
  6. Quartermaster Report
    1. Jerry B. reported the menu for the holiday campout would be turkey and beef.  Preparations are underway for a great campout.
  7. Web update.
    1. Our webmaster gave us an update on the hits for our website.  Our second highest hits were from France.
  8. High Adventure
    1. Preparations for Seabase are underway.  It is scheduled from December 26 to January 1, 2006
    2. Isle Royal is scheduled for June 23 to July 1, 2006.  Campsites are reserved.
    3. The possibility of a High Adventure summer camp in 2007 was discussed.  An exciting camp in Virginia was discussed.
  9. Scoutmaster Report
    1. The Policies and Guideline manual was approved and unanimously adopted by the committee, with slight changes. 
    2. Changes were discussed for the 1st class scout.
    3. A new order of procedure was adopted by the district for obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. 
    4. Wreath pick up was scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving at Rod B. house at 7:15 am. 
  10. The next committee meeting is scheduled for December 19 at 7:30pm with our host Jerry B. at Dagwood’s Deli on Grand River in Farmington.
