Troop 271 Committee Meeting

April 11, 2005

 

 

1.)    Eagle presentation

a.       Ken T. gave a presentation on his Eagle project.  He plans on doing some landscaping at St. Mels church in Dearborn Heights.  The committee made some suggestions and he will discuss it further with Committee members.

2.)    Camping Report

a.       The Miakonda campout was held in March.  A good time was had by all that attended.  We used 3 cabins and it was reported that the food was good.

b.      A May campout will be held at the Willow Metro-Park.  The program will be orienteering. 

c.       The Summer camp will be July 9 to 16 at Camp Rotary in Clare.  26 Scouts and 10 adults have signed up for the camp.  The fee is now $235.00 per scout.

d.      Future campouts being discussed are Cedar Pt.  In September, D-A for the Holiday campout, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. 

3.)    Activities

a.       A Planet Rock adventure is scheduled for April 30 at 8:00 am to 11:00 am.  A great chance to climb the walls. 

b.      Scout day in the park is May 7 at Rotary Park from 11 am to 2 pm. 

c.       Colin B. Eagle Court of Honor is also on May 7 at 3:30 pm. 

d.      A parents meeting will be held at the April 24 meeting to announce open Troop positions.

4.)    Advancement Report- none

5.)    Treasurers Report- none

6.)    Quartermaster Report

a.       Mr. K. reported that he had sent in some tents for repair. 

b.      Mr. B. donated a huge camping stove for the troops use. 

7.)    Web Site Update

a.       Mr. D. reported he was currently pursuing the younger scouts for a talent release

8.)    Rechartering Report

a.       Doc reported he rechartered online this year.  We are down 3 scouts from last year.  We also qualified for the Quality Unit Award.

9.)    High Adventure

a.       Sea Base is scheduled for December 26 of 2005 to January 2 of 2006.  9 people are signed up to go.  It was necessary to release one boat that we had previously released due to the lack of people signed up for that date.  We will forfeit our deposit for that boat. 

b.      Isle Royale is scheduled for June 23 to July 1 of 2006.  The cost is expected to be approx. $150.00 plus food.  It is open to scouts 13 and older who have attained the rank of 1st class. 

10.) Policy Rules and Discussions

a.       Doc reported the creation of a file containing all the paperwork for the medicals and the driving slips, and histories for the scouts.  This will be handy for future campouts. 

11.) Scoutmaster Report

a.       Rob K. reported Leo N. would provide a couple of sessions for the law merit badge for scouts 1st class and above from April 17 to 24. 

b.      He also reported elections to take place on the 24th.

c.       Mackinac service camp was discussed and MIS was also discussed. 

12.) The next meeting will be on May 9, 2005 at Doc’s House at 7:30 pm.
